Who Is This Course For?

The CHC50121 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care is the latest nationally accredited unit for individuals who want to design and implement a curriculum that meets the requirements of an approved learning framework and for maintaining compliance in other areas of service operations. How Is The Course Delivered?

Training is delivered via online classes and vocational placement.


Course Duration: This course is designed to be completed in up to 48-60 weeks (excluding holidays).


Expected Study Hours: Typical learners are expected to spend up to 1287 hours depending on existing knowledge, skills and experience. 


Structure: All learners will be assessed through: 

  • Observation during role play/simulation 
  • Questioning may include self-assessment, verbal answers, written questionnaires, activity modules or interview 
  • Third party 
  • Structured activities may include projects, case studies, presentations, role play, demonstration, progressive tasks

This course is designed to develop your expertise in early childhood education. Among others, you will learn to:

  • Manage team effectiveness 
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment for children 
  • Nurture creativity in children 
  • Facilitate compliance in a children's education and care service 
  • Foster positive and respectful interactions and behaviour in children 

Vocational Placement

Learners are required to undertake a minimum of 280 hours of vocational placement within a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia. This must occur after the student has satisfactorily completed all the other subjects in this qualification. 

Learners have the options to: 

  • The learner may look for a vocational placement provider themselves. (Compassion Education to check workplace suitability.) 
  • The learner may request Compassion Education assist in finding a suitable vocational placement provider. 

Compassion Education will provide learners with Skills Workbooks that will facilitate the required workplace assessments and allow the learner to complete the required vocational placement hours. 


Learners are recommended to decide on their vocational placement providers as soon as enrolment is confirmed to ensure that enough slots are available at each provider and to allow sufficient time for Compassion Education and the workplace partners to make the necessary preparations. 

What Are The Entry Requirements?

Students must:

  • Be 18 years or older 
  • Have sound language and literacy skills* (at least Year 10 English, or equivalent) 
  • Have basic computer skills* 
  • Have a current and valid Blue Card, Working with Children Check (WWCC), or Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration recognised in the state/territory of your vocational placement provider, or be eligible to obtain this requirement** 

*Learners who fail the LL&N and computer skill assessment may still be enrolled to a course if endorsed by the trainer/ assessor, and corresponding additional support strategies are in place.


**Learners who do not have their Blue Card, WWCC, or WWVP prior to enrolment must apply for and obtain this requirement prior to vocational placement as required by this course. What Resources Will You Need To Supply? 

To complete your course, you will need ongoing access to the following:

  • Computer with internet and email access and a working web browser 
  • Installed software: MS Word, Adobe Acrobat Reader 
  • Video recording equipment 
  • Safe and suitable environment for role plays 
  • At least twelve (12) volunteers to participate in various role play activities

This course covers 15 units of competency (12 core units and 3 elective units)

  • CHCECE046 – Implement strategies for the inclusion of all children 
  • CHCECE047 – Analyse information to inform children’s learning 
  • CHCECE048 – Plan and implement children’s education and care curriculum 
  • CHCECE049 – Embed environmental responsibility in service operations 
  • CHCECE050 – Work in partnership with children’s families 
  • CHCPRP003 – Reflect on and improve own professional practice 

Elective Units: 

  • BSBOPS502 – Manage business operational plans. 
  • BSBPEF502 – Develop and use emotional intelligence.
  • CHCMGT003 – Lead the work team. 

What Are The Course Fees?

The CHC50121 course is available for only $4,550. 

($1,500.00 initial deposit + remaining balance of $3,050.00 to be paid in 11 monthly instalments of $277.27)

What Are The Qualification Pathways?

Learners may also consider additional training to complement your skills in early childhood education and care, with courses such as: 

  • CHC50221 Diploma of School Age Education and Care* – Ideal for learners who are interested in running a regulated school age education and care service 
  • TAE40116 – Certificate IV in Training and Assessment* – Ideal for learners who are interested in becoming a trainer or delivering workplace training 

*These qualifications are not offered by Compassion Education
